Tawang Festival 2018

Pretty much the title of my book ‘Early Sunrise Early Sunset’ is due to the fact that one of the 7 sister states i.e Arunachal Pradesh is known as ‘The Land of Rising Sun’. And this is why this state holds a special value in my heart. Like every other north-eastern state, Arunachal tourism is tremendously shooting due to its magnificent cultural heritage and majestic grandeur that the state holds with its surging mountains, gushing rivers and thriving flora and fauna.

And how can I forget mentioning about ‘Tawang’ when it comes to appreciating the majestic Arunachal Pradesh? Tawang is a small mountain in the heart of the State. Inhabited by the Monpa and Sherdukpen tribes of Arunachal Pradesh, Tawang is well known as the birthplace of Sixth Dalai Lama and houses some of the oldest monasteries, with the Tawang Monastery being the most popular and sacred one for the Buddhists. It is a place which will surely flatter you with its natural beauty enfolded in the scent of unworldliness. You can explore some of the best tourist attractions in Tawang like Sela Pass, Bumla Pass, Madhuri lake, Gorichen Peak, Nuranang Falls and P.T. Tso Lake while on a Tawang tour. It is undoubtedly a perfect escapade away from the urban crowd. [Explore Sikkim Lakes]

The Picturesque Tawang!

What makes Tawang one of the most Beautiful and Cultural Tourist Destination?

The culture of Tawang is greatly influenced by the Tibetans and the Buddhists life ideologies. With a serene and pacifying ambience, Tawang is emerging as a famous tourist destination during snowfalls. One can very well experience Tibetan and Buddhist’s cultural heritage as the natives celebrate their festivals in Tawang.

Why should you all be planning for Tawang Trip in 2018?

Appreciated with the titles of the “Best Cultural Festival” and “Best Tourist Destination” of 2017, Tawang is all set to celebrate its one of the most awaited cultural festival- Tawang Festival 2018. Also, explore lesser-known festivals of north east india.

Tawang Festival is a 3-day magnificent festival planned by the State Tourism Department to encourage tourism and exhibit the culture and traditions of the city as well as the entire state. Every year, the festival begins with a religious tradition which is Sebang – the religious rally of monks from the Tawang monastery to the festival spot to declare the festival open. This Cultural Festival has everything from revealing Buddhist religious events, tribal and traditional dances, handloom products and other crafts made by the locals, local food delicacies, historical movies of the State, photography, painting exhibitions and more. Last year, the festival ended with a high-altitude race at 10,000 ft from sea level known as the “Tawang International Run“. [Know About India’s Greatest Outdoor Musical Festival]

This year the Tawang Festival 2018 dates from 26th-29th October.

I have heard a lot about people’s experiences when they are at the iconic ‘Welcome to Tawang’ Gate at Sela Pass (Se La). The small streets are all decorated with colourful prayer flags making it quite evident that the festival is about to start. There are a lot of events and activities going around the old market along with a local commentary in their native Tibetan language which was not very easy to understand. However, visit to Tawang is still on my bucket list of north-east travel experiences. And, I would suggest the same to every traveller out there to put on to his/her travel shoes and plan a trip to Tawang this October and experience cultural diversity at its best during the Tawang Festival.
